Opening the Heart: A Jewish Meditation Retreat
with Rabbi Jeff Roth
at Am Kolel Sanctuary near Washington, DC
Sponsored by the Awakened Heart Project
Join Rabbi Jeff Roth for this unique retreat. We will open the retreat with Shabbat, creating connection with the Divine Presence and a personal spaciousness that opens the heart of compassion. We will then use this experience as the anchor for a daily practice that awakens us to an awareness of the Divine Presence in every moment. Our final weekend will culminate in a deep and rich Shabbat.
Shabbat practice provides an excellent opportunity to benefit from the value of meditation. The Shabbat portions of the retreat will empower you with practices that can be a model for Shabbat throughout the year. These are practices that you can use in the course of daily life as well. These practices can enhance your relationships with family, colleagues as well as all the communities of your life. At the core is the enhancement of the sense of the Divine Presence that pervades all of being.
Throughout the retreat, Rabbi Jeff Roth will be offering the opportunity to experience practices which thousands of people have found transformative and life enhancing. Learn practices that result in greater clarity and wisdom, open the heart of compassion and lead to greater happiness. Participants will enhance their skills in a range of meditative techniques. These include concentration techniques, contemplative prayer chants, mindfulness meditation, the path of blessing, walking and eating meditation and practices that cultivate joy.
Structure of the Retreat
The retreat is conducted in social silence which means refraining from conversation with other participants at all times. There will be group times for questions and answers. Rabbi Roth will provide instructions for all practices as well as present relevant didactic material. The silence of these retreats allows for a settling of the mind as well as an in depth look at ones experience of life in each moment. In meeting the present moment, the opportunity to meet the Divine Presence manifests.
Fees for the retreat cover room and board and administrative costs only. The teachings are offered freely. Donations will be requested to support the teacher’s work, and to support this model of charging only the actual costs to participants. Financial support is available through The Awakened Heart Project. Contact brian (at) awakenedheart (dot) org with requests for aid or with other questions.
The retreat will be held at Am Kolel Sanctuary and Renewal Center, 19520 Darnestown Road, Beallsville, MD 20839. All meals are vegetarian. Space limited to 24 people.
